Jesus Unique

The book of Revelation is rich with imagery and sometimes we may find that confusing or difficult to understand. On Sunday we learned about some images that John speaks of in Revelation chapters 4 and 5. The the imagery of the four living creatures surrounding the throne was one of the examples that I hopefully made clearer!

What I did not have time to cover was the image of the Lamb. According to Revelation 5:6 we read of this peculiar image “He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.”.
A slain Lamb with seven horns and seven eyes is quite an odd picture. So, what does it mean for the Lamb to have seven horns?
First we must understand that the number seven indicates perfection or completeness.
A horn is a symbol to the Jews of power and strength. When you possess seven horns, the truth revealed is that this slain Lamb has complete power and strength.
Next, we examine the seven eyes which we are told are the “seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth”.
Again we have the number seven indicating completeness. The seven eyes or spirits of God sent into the world represents the Holy Spirit. Jesus says this in John 16:7 “But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.”.
The slain Lamb sends the Holy Spirit (the Counselor) to be with us, a very real and complete presence of God in your life.
When does this happen?
According to the prophet Joel in his future the Holy Spirit would be poured out on all people.
Joel 2:28 “And afterward,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy,
your old men will dream dreams,
your young men will see visions.”
Peter quotes Joel in Acts 2:17 to explain the incredible movement of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
The Holy Spirit the third person of the Trinity is the presence of God dwelling in every believer.
This image of a slain Lamb of complete power, strength, knowledge and has sent the fullness of God into the world can only be realized through Jesus Christ.
